1st Bangor continued their good run of form with a 6-3 away win over local rivals Bangor Amateurs.
Despite a good start by 1st Bangor the game lacked any real flow in the first half with Adam Welsh going closest with two well-hit efforts narrowly missing the target. However, with the half petering out suddenly 1st Bangor unlocked the Amateurs defence with Aaron Caldwell doing extremely well on the right hand side and clipping in a great ball for George Chelariu to head into the corner and give 1st Bangor a 1-0 lead going into half time.
If the 1st half was somewhat dull the 2nd half was anything but. Amateurs equalised early on with a 50:50 ball between keeper John McIlveen and Dinger spilling out to the Amateurs number 9 to fire home and make it 1-1. However this seemed to spur 1st Bangor into action and within 10 minutes it was 4-1 1st Bangor with 3 quick goals. The first was calmly taken by George Chelariu after a Croker through ball sent him away to round the keeper and slide into the empty net. The second and 1st Bangor's third was a fine header by Aaron Caldwell after a good ball in again from Croker. The third of the quick-fire goals then came from Adam Welsh, slamming home after a goal-mouth scramble.
The game then began to swing back to the Amateurs after Peter Hinds arrival into the fray. Hinds didn't take long to make an impact, powering home a header to make it 4-2. Hinds was again involved as Amateurs clawed another back, flicking the ball on at the front post for a team-mate to make it 4-3.
1st Bangor then made several changes, Beggs, Scott and McNamara coming on for Welsh, McCormick and Moore. Within 5 mins of the changes, a tussle between Scott and the Amateurs centre-back led to a penalty which star man George Chelariu calmly clipped into the net to make his hat-trick and give 1st Bangor some breathing space. McNamara controlled possession in the middle of the park and the game began to wind down but the scoring wasn't quite over. Amateurs keeper (and former 1st Bangor player) Croskery going through Scott to try to take the ball and in the process giving 1st Bangor their second penalty. George Chelariu once again stepped up to make it 6 for 1st Bangor and taking his personal haul for the match to an amazing 4.
