Saturday saw 1st Bangor keep the pressure on the top teams in 1C with a battling 1-0 win against a dogged Bangor Amateurs side who included several ex-1st Bangor players and management.
1st Bangor started the quicker, Jamie McKenzie hitting the post, Michael Corkum going close with two headers and George Chelariu having several chances cleared off the line before finally putting the ball in the net only to see the goal wiped out harshly for offside. However, after the initial pressure the Amateurs came back into the game and it was a fairly even affair for the 10 minutes before half time, both sides canceling each other out.
The second half started as the first did with 1st Bangor on the attack. However, 1st Bangor still couldn't find the back of the net with Ben Gourley, Aaron Caldwell and George Chelariu all going close. The decisive moment in the match eventually came in the 80th minute after a loose clearance from Amateurs keep Conor Couston at the edge of the 18 yard box found Ben Gourley 30 yards from goal who hit his shot first time to lob Couston and put 1st Bangor 1-0 up with 10 minutes to go.
The match could've and perhaps should've been put to bed after that with 1st Bangor going clear through on several occasions as the game began to get stretched but again failed to finish off their chances.
Despite some very late pressure from the Amateurs the game finished 1-0 to 1st Bangor who remain firmly in the promotion hunt as the season enters its final stages. Good luck to the Amateurs for the rest of their season.
