1st Bangor's players provided everyone at the Club the perfect antidote to the January blues with a resolute and entertaining performance away to a dogged Dromore side. 1st Bangor eventually ran out 5-0 winners from a match which saw them pick up their second clean sheet in a row while notching up 8 goals in the process - just reward for the hard work each and every player has been putting in at training and on the pitch.
With the match in its infancy, McCracken started where he left off in the last match - putting the ball in the hole - this time unleashing a great finish into the bottom right corner to give 1st Bangor the lead after exerting some early pressure on the home side.
The second goal may have came via the foot of an unfortunate Dromore defender but the build-up was nothing but pure class, Caldwell firing it into McCormick in the box who completed a sumptuous one-two by rolling the ball backward past the defender perfectly into Caldwell's path for him to strike first time - only for the ball to smash against the post, back off a defender and into the net. 2-0 1st Bangor.
The match started to get a little frayed in the second half, with challenges becoming more than a little lively but the flow of the game continued with 1st Bangor dominating possession and chances. Oliver, after a relatively quiet first half, sprung to life in the second, consistently driving into the Dromore box and unfortunately not to pick out a player on a number of occasions with some fine crosses. The third goal did eventually arrive however after Oliver was felled in the box with McCracken stepping up to fire home for his second penalty in two games, both after fouls to Olliver.
With the game starting to open up, chances started to flow, with McCormick and McCracken linking up well and the midfield combination of Beattie and Robinson starting to pull the strings. In the 60th minute McCormick must have thought he'd got the goal his performance deserved when he beat the onrushing keeper wide of the goal and sent a shot across which looked to be heading in only for Oliver to nip in and make sure (that's what friends are for), sending 1st Bangor 4-0 up.
Caldwell rounded the scoring off in spectacular fashion, dancing through the entire Dromore defence (as he did on numerous occasions throughout the match) but this time producing a fantastic finish to give him his first goal of the season and send 1st Bangor home with a 5-0 win in their pockets.
The management team will no doubt be just as happy with the defensive performances of McIlveen, Best, Gourley, Sproule and Corkum who as a unit looked solid and composed throughout, as with the team's attacking ability, and will hope the hard-work continues in the weeks ahead.
